Ancient Egypt Travel Blog

10 October, 2012
Today I went to a museum and I saw a time machine which Phineas & Ferb found and fixed. I asked them if they could take me to Ancient Egypt and Phineas say “Ferb I know what were going to do today!”, and so we went to Ancient Egypt.
First we went to the Western Desert; it covers an area of some 700,000 km2, which accounts for two-thirds of Egypt’s total land area. While there we saw unusual rock formations. Before we left I saw 7 major depressions, all of them were oases but one. The Qattara Depression is the country’s lowest point and is the size of Lake Ontario. When we were there we saw some cemeteries belonging to Neolithic people. That was when we noticed we went too far back in time... it was the fifth millennium B.C. After looking at the cemetery from afar we left the cemetery and went back to the time machine.

When we got to the time machine we went to the Eastern Desert, It is east of the Nile, and it is relatively mountainous. The hills can reach up to 1,900 meters high; this desert is around 220,000 km2 and is mostly uninhabited. It also reaches the red sea. When we got there we could not find anything there no artifacts no people nothing so we just left. We went back to the time machine and had to go back to the present so we could charge the battery.

Two days after we came back I went to meet them at the museum so we could go back again. This time we went to the Nile Delta right at the bay of the Nile River, one of the longest rivers in the world which is about 6,650 kilometres. The Nile Delta belonged to Lower Egypt; the Nile Delta is also the most extensive oasis in the world. The river creates a very fertile ground. When we were there we saw the Nile flood, the surveyors marking the land, peasants working, we saw them plant all kinds of thing like barley, wheat, and some vegetables; the children and labourers driving the herd of animals to cultivate the land. After all of this work the harvest went to the market, landowner, and it was given to the labourers as payment. Ancient Egypt relied very much on agriculture to get its wealth. They made their own rope and linen cloth from the flax they grew. The Egyptians hunted the birds in the marsh; the Nile also produced a lot of fish. When we were there we celebrated their new year which it was at the middle of July.  After this we were tired of helping them do some work we went back to the present and promised to meet each other again tomorrow.

This was going to be our last time going back in time to Egypt because the museum where the time machine is at is going to move the machine to somewhere else. So when we got there we left for the coordinates: 29.308374°N 30.844105°E which is where the city of Faiyum is located in the middle of Egypt. When we were there we saw some of the famous death masks/ mummy portraits painted. Which means were there during the Roman occupation of the area. The Egyptian religion had a god for everything, there were more than 2000 names for gods that have been found; some gods were powerful and worshipped while some were wispy spirits. There were gods who lived inside living things as for example the Nile River, the sun, the sky and earth; gods who stood for learning. There were gods that were good and gods who were evil, gods for protection and fierce gods to protect against the bad gods, there were also gods for the dead. Some gods were human some were animals, even some were human and animal, but the most important god was the god of the sun. Egyptians were grateful when the sun rose, because they were worried when the sun set an evil snake would swallow the sun. Different towns worshiped different gods; they believed if their god was powerful they were powerful. Egypt finally got unified sometime around 3150 B.C. but before each capital has its own goddess; Upper Egypt which was at the bottom of Egypt has a goddess that looked like a vulture and Lower Egypt which was above Upper Egypt has a goddess that looked like a cobra. After the unification the kings wore both crowns to simulate the joining of the country and religion. The Pharaohs main job was to take care of the gods, gods were happy the Pharaoh would be happy and the people would be happy. Pharaohs built great temples to show respect and inside the temples was a shrine were there was a statue of the god, priests served the statue as if it was a live, priests was the Pharaohs representatives. Two of original gods were the god of Osiris and the goddess of Isis who were children to the goddess of the sky and the god of the earth. A human had 3 spirits which were the Ba, Ka, Akh; each spirit played a different role after death. After learning all of this were ready to go back home for good but I wanted to check the Mediterranean Sea before leaving, the Egyptians used the Mediterranean Sea as a trade route, they went as a pattern which was Palestine and Syria, Cyprus, Crete, Greece, and as far as Sardinia before heading back to Egypt. After we noticed the pattern we back to the present were we said goodbye and that was my experience of going back into Ancient Egyptian time.

In conclusion, I had a great experience in my time travel and I had fun I learned a lot about Ancient Egypt and in my opinion the best area in Ancient Egypt would be the Nile Delta because that is where the farms are mostly located. It is also close to the Mediterranean Sea which gives good access to trade.
